Soak Up the Sun

ashley is one of our baristas. she had a little extra time after her shift yesterday, so she poured herself a drink, put on her shades, and relaxed in the sun... it was a perfect day. oh hey, do you know who originally sang perfect day on his 1972 album transformer? and no, it wasn't the jolly boys. if you do know the answer, you'll get double punches toward a free drink today!

Receipt Scarf

i remember when we used to write out receipts for customers. our old cash register didn't make it easy to print out individual receipts. however, now on a busy day we can have enough for a scarf... for two women! thanks for everyone who kept homer's hoppin' on saturday!

Packed For Australia

laura's plane leaves tomorrow for australia where she will attend the world barista championship as a spectator. she won an all expenses paid trip playing bingo, and her bags have been packed for awhile... i think she's been ready to go ever since she found out.

Breakout is 37

it was 37 years ago when atari's breakout challenged gamers in the 1970's. yesterday, google celebrated this anniversary by making an online version of the pong-like game. i made it to the third screen and saw food images in the blocks that included avocados and tomatoes (two ingredients in homers' grilled sandwiches!) try the game yourself by clicking here, and tell a barista how high (or low) you scored! double punches for everyone who tries to breakout today! oh, and the answer to monday's trivia? billy joel.

Mr. Roarke is Alive and Well

i grew up watching fantasy island right after the love boat every saturday night. ricardo montalban played mr. roarke on fantasy island, a show about people going to a resort to live out a fantasy. montalban's character,  mr. roarke, always greeted his guests with a smile, and encouraged his staff to do the same. now ricardo montalban may have died 3 years ago, but yesterday at sam's club, shopping for homer's, i saw mr. roarke. this man was got out of his car saying, "happy monday everyone! happy monday!" the beginning of the work week isn't usually a day most people get happy, but this guy made me (and others) smile, and suddenly i was back on fantasy island.
