1984

1984 is more than just the name of a george orwell book, or an arcade in springfield, mo... on today's date in 1984 a video game (see pic above) was born that is still played today. back then players would place their soda, coffee, or other random beverage on a nearby table and play this game for hours. if you are the first customer to tell a barista the name of this game you get a free drink today! everyone else gets double drink card punches for trying.

rob guy normally works at homer's, but this month he is exploring germany! to commemorate rob's trip to the country that brought us sauerbraten, here's a little quiz to see how well you know the land of deutch! which one of these facts is NOT true about germany? A Round of Applause for Jim!

he said he was gonna do it, and he did! this morning jim huber made his way to a computer terminal at the johnson county library, looked up our little blog, and promptly drove to homer's to answer the trivia question (the answer was = MAP, scroll down to see the question). jim chose his usual cup of moroccan mint tea for his freebie. afterward he was given an oversize penny as the ambassador of spain missed his cue to look either at jim, or the penny.

Spell It Out For Free

kansas city first aid has been offering CPR classes at homer's for as long as i can remember. when CPR students walk in, they are easy to spot because they are looking in every direction but the menu. whoever is behind the register will ask "are you here for the class?" and then tell them where they need to go (next door and to the right). today, one free drink goes to the lucky customer who can tell a barista what identifying letters are on the door where the CPR classes are held! double drink card punches go to everyone else who know how many RN's i certified last night (i moonlight as an instructor for kansas city first aid). oh hey, congratulations to allan werner who won a free drink yesterday! he correctly answered 1530 as the year the first coffeehouse opened for business.
