the arnold palmer is a half lemonade, half iced tea drink. apparently arnold palmer used to order it at clubhouses where he golfed. you can only get it during the summer at homer's (because that's the only time we squeeze lemons). order yours today.

Shot in the Dark Alias

if you order a shot in the dark at homer's, you get espresso shots and drip coffee, but around the metro area it goes by other names like the red eye, a depth charge, black magic. just out of curiosity i looked up other names for this drink and found:
a hammerhead, all nighter, lazarus, black fandango, road warrior, coffee suicide... ok, ok... one of those names i just made up. the first customer to figure it out gets a free drink today! it doesn't even have to be the shot in the dark! everybody else gets double drink card punches for mentioning the blog.

The Perfect Grind

my wife and i just got back from camping out on the dunes of lake michigan. we did the same thing last year, but we were fair weather campers, we ate out alot, and didn't cook anything on the campgrounds. this year was different. we saved a TON of money and cooked on the coleman stove that jim huber gave us. we also brought our own coffee grinder. i found out (by trial and error) that the beans need to be coarsely ground so they don't turn into cowboy coffee. the first pot i made on weko beach was bad. by the time we made it to van buren, i worked on my technique, perfected the grind, and felt like a barista again.
